Abstract
In this paper, we present two methods: time-domain technique and frequency-domain technique to evaluate lightning electromagnetic fields, analytical expressions and numerical methods are obtained for the fields using each technique. The numerical results are consistent with each other. Moreover, the vertical electric field at 15 m obtained by the two proposed methods is in good agreement with the measured result, and the vertical electric fields and horizontal magnetic fields at a distance of 15 m, 10 km, 100 km above ground level obtained by the time-domain technique are identical to the fields obtained by accurate Rubinstein-Uman formula.
