Abstract
A three-dimensional analytical model has been established for the electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) materials based on microstrip structure. The EBG materials are constructed by drilling air holes through dielectric substrate or by placing dielectric blocks on a metal plate. The numerical simulation of bandgap characteristics has been performed using moment method and the Green's function is straightforward for this structure. Both the EBG structures have been studied. The results are compared to that using simplified 2-D model. The effect of the parameters on the bandgap characteristics has been studied.
