Abstract
A single folded-slot antenna with a high impedance ground plane (HIGP) has been successfully designed. Employing the design of experiment (DOE) technique, a well-matched folded-slot antenna has been obtained without any matching networks. At the same time, since the HIGP is utilized between the substrate and the ground as a 'magnetic conductor', the radiation efficiency of the antenna has been greatly improved. Electromagnetic simulation shows that the return loss of the antenna near 30 GHz is less than −30 dB and the directivity is 8.3 dBi. These properties are much better than traditional CPW-fed slot antennas.
