Abstract
The condition number of matrices from various vector FEM-BEM formulations for 3-D scattering is investigated. As the inward-looking approach is considered, the condition number of the FEM-BEM system matrix is estimated for different hybrid formulations and verified by numerical examples. It is shown that the condition number varies greatly with different hybrid formulations used, and therefore, the stability of the hybrid formulations varies correspondingly. Finally, the hybrid formulation of the vector FEM-BEM method for 3-D scattering is recommended.
