Abstract
The analytical expression of equivalent permittivity for rain medium is presented by utilizing the system identification method to investigate the electromagnetic wave attenuation induced by rain. The obtained result shows that the permittivity is a function both of the frequency and the rain rate. The pulse broadening effects in rain are researched with the incoming permittivity. Simulations in millimeter waves band demonstrate that the increase of pulse broadening with that of rain rate and decrease with increase of operating frequency.
