Abstract

Photonic crystals (PCs) have become a key subject due to its enormous applications in advanced photonics. The simulation tools have been developed using MATLAB software to analyze the optical and physical parameters. Significant variation in refractive index contrast from 1.65 to 2.5 has been observed which remarkably affects to the forbidden bandwidth. The bandwidth of photonic bandgap and reflectance shows great dependency on frequency and incidence angle of light. The broad region of reflectance bands demonstrates that the light propagation is strictly prohibited in these regions. The peak value of effective index is found to be 42.32 for its corresponding value of group velocity nearly equals to zero. The group velocity approaches to '0' at frequency 0.2894 which indicates the initial point of a forbidden bandgap.
