Abstract

Distributed circuit parameter extraction from field result of non-uniform transmission line provides circuit designers an efficient way to predict the effect of non-uniform structures. The motivation of this paper is to study the efficiency and applicability of the extracted distributed circuit parameters. These parameters are extracted from the FDTD results in this paper and are used to construct an equivalent circuit. Exciting the circuit with Gaussian pulse and using the equivalent circuit method, the transmitted and reflected pulse waveforms on the circuit can be obtained. By comparing these waveforms and the corresponding frequency domain S parameters with those obtained directly from FDTD, the applicable scope of the extracted circuit parameters can be studied.
