Abstract
The design of a new type slotted leakywave coaxial cable with good coupling loss performance and multiple operating frequency bands is presented, in which FDTD simulation is utilized to obtain the electric and magnetic fields' distribution on a specified surface enclosing a segment of the cable, and then Huygens' Principle is applied to calculate the far field radiation. Coupling effect between slots has also been studied, which is verified to have significant effect on the radiation field at higher frequency band. Genetic algorithm is used to optimize the spacing between the slots inside a fundamental cell and the period of the fundamental cells to get better coupling loss performance. Measured results agree well with the simulation data, indicating that the methodology is effective for the design of such cables with multi-bands requirements.
