Wideband Differential Phase Shifter using Modified Composite Right/Left Handed Transmission Line

Abstract

A modified composite right/left handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) is presented. With respect to a conventional CRLH-TL, it is a more accurate model because a pure left handed (LH) cell is not possible due to unavoidable parasitic series inductance and shunt capacitance effects. A 45° differential phase shifter constructed by a modified CRLH-TL and a conventional delay TL is designed and implemented using SMT chip components. The new model is validated by simulation and measurement results.
