Abstract

Presently, one-dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) waveguides has attracted intensive attention due to its better field intensity distribution and well confinement of light within the air guiding medium. In this paper, we have concentrated on the fundamental mode of symmetric waveguide for TE polarization. Our analysis shows that we can have well confined field intensity within the air guiding medium with optimal designing parameters such as λ = 1 μm and n 1 = 2.4 & n 2 = 1.2 of cladding layers. The optical confinement is excellent for the fundamental mode supported by 1D photonic crystal waveguide within the active guiding region using optimum values of structural parameters.
