Enhancement of Evanescent Wave in an Electrically Anisotropic Slab with Partially Negative Permittivity Tensor

Abstract

A theoretical study on the enhancement of evanescent wave in an electrically anisotropic slab with partially negative permittivity tensor is presented. It is shown that the enhancement of the evanescent wave depends on the orientation of the optical axis, the thickness of the slab and the transverse wave vector inside the slab. If such parameters are properly chosen, extremely high enhancement of the evanescent wave can be observed even in the present of material loss.
