Abstract
A single-layer monopole antenna simply consisting of an hook-shaped strip and a coplanar waveguide (CPW) feedline is proposed for dual wideband operation. Prototypes of the proposed antenna have been fabricated and measured for the electromagnetic performance including the impedance bandwidths, radiation patterns, and gains. The proposed design, with size of 24.5 × 27.5 mm2, leads to good dual wideband operation with −10 dB impedance bandwidths of 320 MHz and 5.28 GHz centered at 2.21 and 5.1 GHz, respectively, covering IMT-2000, WiMax, and 5 GHz WLAN operation bandwidths. A stable radiation pattern and high average gains of about 2.4 and 6.4 dBi, respectively, over the two operating bands have also been obtained.
