Abstract

In this paper, we present a new method for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation in the presence of unknown nonuniform white noise whose covariance is an arbitrary diagonal matrix. This new method can estimate the noise covariance matrix effectively based on the structure of array covariance matrix of the received data. The negative effect of the unknown nonuniform white noise on the DOA estimation can be eliminated by subtracting the noise covariance matrix from the array covariance matrix, then the conventional Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm can be applied. Computer simulations are conducted to show the validity and advantage of this method.
