Abstract
A new single-layer single-patch wide-band probe-feed microstrip patch antenna is investigated in this paper. The patch has a crescentlike shape in configuration. The proposed crescentlike microstrip antenna operating over 7.8 GHz ∼ 13.5 GHz is able to achieve a measured impedance bandwidth of 53% for VSWR < 3. And the patch is only single layer, in which it can be used for applications such as conformal microstrip antennas. Measurements on a prototype of the proposed patch antenna confirm good performance in terms of both impedance matching and gain.
