Abstract

We present a compact, frequency-tunable Peano antenna integrated with inductors. By properly choosing the inductance of two inductors, the operating frequency can be controlled without critically sacrificing fractional bandwidth. To demonstrate the operating mechanism, the equivalent circuit of this antenna is included. By using different inductor pairs the operating frequency is decreased from 3.33 GHz to 0.567 GHz. The electrical size of the fabricated antenna is 0.0246λ × 0.0246λ × 0.0113λ. It has a fractional bandwidth of 6.52% and a radiation efficiency of 47.25%. To overcome the limitation imposed by the maximum inductance of available inductors, we propose combining two inductors in series and integrating four inductors, and we have designed a Peano antenna operating at in the T-DMB band. The validity of this antenna is demonstrated experimentally, and the agreement between measured and simulated results is good.
