Abstract

In this paper, a novel compact modified pentagonal shaped planar ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna with small size of 19.5 × 21 × 1 mm3 is presented. The band rejection operation achieve at the WLAN band (5.15–5.85 GHz) band by adding two symmetric pentagonal shape parasitic patches. The antenna is fabricated on FR4 substrate with a relative dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1 mm which fed by a 50Ω line. The calculated and measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna ranges from 3 GHz to 12 GHz for a VSWR less than 2. Also, it has a relatively stable radiation patterns over its whole frequency band of interest.
