Abstract
A compact single-layer planar antenna is proposed for dualband operation. The antenna is a coplanar waveguide-fed patch with dual embedded inverted-L shaped slots. The effects of the proposed antenna with/without the embedded slots in the patch on impedance matching condition have been examined theoretically. Prototype of the proposed antenna has been fabricated and measured for the electromagnetic performance including the impedance bandwidth, radiation pattern, and antenna gain. The designed antenna, which, including the ground, is only 18 × 22.5 mm2, leads to good dual bandwidths covering 2.4/5 GHz WLAN operation. Also, a stable radiation pattern and high average gains of about 3.6 and 4.3 dBi, respectively, over the two operating bands have been obtained.
