Abstract
A microstrip printed monopole antenna with defect ground plane is proposed. It provides wideband performance with radiation pattern similar to ideal monopole antenna. It is compact and has low profile. It is demonstrated that the antenna provides an impedance bandwidth ranging from 2.37 GHz to 6.12 GHz (for VSWR < 2) and supports a monopole type pattern. Extensive simulations are employed through varying its geometric parameters and discussed in the paper.
