Abstract

This research proposes a new type of wideband dipole antenna with an integrated wideband slotline-based balun covering several application bands from 2.25 GHz to 6.2 GHz. Specifically, the adopted wideband slotline balun has been optimized for the operation in multiple frequency bands. Then, the presented series-fed dipole antenna is excited with the slotline-based balun with microstrip to slotline transition method to transmit power. This dipole antenna can be used in many wireless network applications including all WLAN systems and some WiMAX bands (WLAN 2.45 GHz/5.2 GHz/5.8 GHz and fixed WiMAX 3.5 GHz/5.5 GHz). The novel shape of this antenna is designated for multiple paths of current flows to achieve wideband performance. This antenna preserves several advantages as in the case of the conventional one, such as ease of fabrication and design, and compact in size, and it can find many applications in the integration of mobile communications. Specifically, the proposed dipole antenna is easy to be fabricated because of using inexpensive FR4 substrate, and the gain performance of this antenna is of average 3.56 dBi.
