Mobile Handset Antenna with Reduced Chassis Influence

Pages 295-304 | Published online: 03 Apr 2012

Abstract

For the mobile handset antennas, it is well known that the antenna performance depends strongly on the size of its chassis which typically consists of printed circuit board and RF shield. To reduce the chassis influence, a novel compact inverted-triangle current choke is presented in this paper. Compared with the conventional inverted- U current choke, the proposed choke has a size reduction up to 44%. A sample antenna with the proposed choke operating at the center frequency of 3.5 GHz is fabricated and measured. Measured results show that the proposed choke significantly mitigates the influence of the chassis to the antenna performance.
