Numerical Studies of the Propagation of High-Power Damped Sine Microwave Pulse in the Atmosphere

Abstract

Simulations of the propagation of a high-power damped sine microwave pulse in the atmosphere in fluid model are presented, in which various reaction sets of oxygen and nitrogen are taken into account for calculating the ionization parameters. The accuracy of our method is verified by experimental results. Numerical simulations show that the electrons in the air breakdown lead to large attenuation in the tail of the pulse and high-frequency breaking, and the air breakdown depends strongly on the damped coefficient of the pulse and altitude. At high altitude, the modulated frequency has significant influence on the air breakdown.
