Abstract
Narrow band notches for ultra-wideband antenna using electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures are presented. Compared with conventional methods to notch the entire 5–6 GHz band for WLAN band, the proposed antenna uses EBG structures to achieve two narrow notched bands at 5.2 and 5.8 GHz, to use the spectrum efficiently. The antenna with EBG structures is simulated and studied, and then an experimental prototype is fabricated. The simulated and measured results show that the proposed antenna can satisfy the requirement of VSWR < 2 over UWB band 3.1–10.6 GHz, except the narrow rejected WLAN bands (VSWR > 2) of 4.6–5.55 GHz and 5.7–6.28 GHz, using the spectrum more efficiently.
