Abstract
A general method of analyzing the time-domain bi-directional coupling of a pair of nonuniformly coupled dispersionless transmission lines is presented. The transmission line equations are decoupled using the method of characteristics and the equations are solved iteratively. In the cases with linear loads, the unit-step response can be obtained in closed-form to the first order, and arbitrary excitations can be handled by convolution. Numerical integration for the cases with nonlinear loads is also shown to be more efficient than integration based on the original coupled partial differential equations.
