A Hybrid Ray-Mode-(Boundary Element) Method

Pages 789-803 | Published online: 03 Apr 2012

Abstract

A new method which combines the hybrid ray-mode and the boundary element methods is presented. The former serves as a global propagator to provide the Green's function of a waveguide, and the latter serves as a local operator to formulate the scattering process by embedded obstacles. The efficiency of the ray-mode Green's function makes use of the boundary element method practical in guiding environments, and the flexibility of the boundary element method permits application of the Green's function considered to arbitrarily shaped scatterers. Line sources excited TE and TM waves in a parallel-plate waveguide with an embedded obstacle are numerically simulated to illustrates these aspects.
