Correlation Functions and Correlation Lengths for Dry Snow

Abstract

Correlation functions and correlation lengths for dry snow are studied in this paper. Several correlation function and correlation length models are compared with literature-based experimental values. The validity of these models for dry snow is examined. It is shown that the correlation function for dry snow has an exponential form. A new relationship between the correlation lengths and physical characteristics of snow is determined. This new formula can be applied to the modelling of microwave emission from snow cover.
