Abstract

The radiation characteristics of imperfectly conducting antenna of revolution with arbitrarily varying surface impedance along the constant ø contour are investigated. The problem is formulated with an electric field integral equation and solved by the method of moments with the Hermite expansion functions as both the basis and weighting functions. The radiation characteristics of antennas of revolution with a magnetic ring current source, including radiation patterns, input admittance, radiation efficiency, radiation directivity and surface current are presented. The results of surface current are validated by the Mie series solution for the case of constant impedance sphere excited by an electric dipole. The cases of cylindrical and duo-conical antennas are also presented. Broadband radiation characteristics are found for absorbing surfaces due to the traveling-wave effect.
