Abstract

In the last years, several studies have documented relationships between language, semantic and narrative skills through late childhood. This paper presents the results of 322 stories told by Italian children with typical development, ages between 3 and 11 years, using The Bears Family Test. The results suggest that the cohesion and structure of the story are closely related to its micro-internal organization and to the child's verbal skills. In addition, at the age of 8 years, an important narrative change is detected insofar as children reach stability integrating different story elements and focus the tale around a problem-solving dyad.
