Abstract
The main objective of the present investigation is to examine the attributional style of subjects with high and low scores in the Beck's Depression Inventory. According with the reformulated helplessness model of depression (Abramson, Seligman & Teasdale, 1978), we expected that the depression-prone individuals should tend to attribute bad outcomes to global, stable and internal factors. In order to prove this hypothesis a total of 154 subjects were asked to fill a Spanish version of Attributional Style Questionnaire (ASQ-E) and the BDI. The results show that depressed subjects, compared to nondepressed ones, attribute bad outcomes to global, stable and internal factors. These findings reveal a depressive attributional style and provide support for the reformulation of learned helplessness and depression.
