Estudio longitudinal sobre la influencia del tipo de residencia, familiar-escolar, en las transiciones de la escuela al trabajo

Longitudinal study on the influence of the type of residence, family home and boarding school in the transitions from school to work

Resumen

En este trabajo se presentan los resultados correspondientesal segundo punto temporal (tiempo 2) de la investigación longitudinal iniciada cinco años antes, sobre una muestra de 187 participantes, residentes en dos contextos distintos: hogar familiar/residencia escolar. En tiempo 2, su edad oscila entre los 17 y los 19 años. Los objetivos perseguidos han sido, por una parte, analizar las diferencias entre ambos grupos respecto a su situación educativa o laboral en este punto temporal y, por otra, comprobar si las diferencias que se habían constatado en la primera transición (cuatro años antes: tiempo 1) habían sufrido variaciones significativas. Los resultados indican que el haber vivido en una residencia durante los años escolares se relaciona con la posición social futura de los jóvenes. Comparados, transversalmente, en tiempo 2, con los que han vivido en el hogar familiar, los niveles educativos que alcanzan son más bajos, abandonan o dejan de estudiar antes y se insertan con edades más tempranas en el mundo laboral, pero en trabajos de baja cualificación. Los resultados longitudinales, cuando se compara la situación de ambos grupos en tiempo 1 con la situación en tiempo 2, no solo confirman las diferencias apuntadas, sino que indican que se ha producido un incremento significativo de esas diferencias.

Abstract

This work presents the results corresponding to the second temporary point (time 2) of the longitudinal research initiated five years before on a sample of 187 participants who were living in two different contexts: family home and boarding school. In time 2, their age oscillates between 17 and 19. The objectives have been to analyze the differences between both groups regarding their educational or labor situation in this temporary point and to check whether the differences that had been verified in the first transition (four years before: time 1) had suffered significant variations.

The results indicate that having lived in a boarding school during the school years is related with the future social position of the youths. When they are compared, transversely, in time 2, with those that have lived in the family home, their educational levels are lower, they leave school earlier and go into the labor world younger, but in low qualification jobs. The longitudinal results, when the situation of both groups is compared in time 1 with the situation in time 2, confirm the above differences, but also indicate a significant increment of those differences.
