Abstract

In Mexico, the traditional role played by men and women within the family has changed. These changes have been attributed to government, educational and social politics and principally to the feminine insertion into the working field. Within these changes, compared to those of their own fathers, there is a bigger participation of men in nursing. However, this contact with the paternity of their fathers has helped them to exert their own paternity. In this work, we study three aspects related to the paternity in a group of twenty-eight Mexican males: their experience as children of their father's paternity, their preparation for the upbringing and the relation between their own paternity and their parents'. We consider that the experience of the males with their parents have allowed them to construct their own model based on their father's in order to reproduce it, change it or transform it. The deficient education for the existent paternity is discussed, and the necessity of social politics helping males in their paternity is expounded.
