Abstract

This paper is aimed to analyze the main characteristics of the way in which the press in Argentina communicates governmental actions. To carry on the task, 744 newspaper editions and 10.340 newspaper articles were classified. Our data indicate that the news coverage tends to be personalist, meaning that governmental actions are represented by the president's figure; and monolithic, meaning that the propositions and images of the government and the president in the press are recurrent. The likely function of such images as cognitive heuristics regarding the understanding of politics is discussed.
