Pages 75-94 | Published online: 23 Jan 2014

Abstract

The Spanish emotion concept emocionado belongs to the affective vocabulary of the Spanish language. It is the passive participle of the Spanish concept of emotion (emoción) and it is very frequently used in everyday speech. This paper introduces the concept emocionado through a qualitative analysis of its more important characteristics obtained from a sample of native Spaniard speakers. The results show that emocionado describes an affective state with its own characteristics, that is, native Spaniard speakers make a clear distinction between estar (being) emocionado and feeling emotions such as happiness; likewise, it is judged as a concept which describes an unspecific emotional state. Finally, it is suggested that emocionado could represent a characteristic affective designation style of the south-Western Europe.
