Actitud hacia los futbolistas nacionalizados: el rol de la ideología y la conveniencia

Resumen

En esta investigación se estudian algunas variables que influyen en la actitud hacia los futbolistas nacionalizados que juegan en las selecciones nacionales. Primero, se predijo que la creencia de que el equipo del país mejoraría con la inclusión de dichos jugadores estaría relacionada con actitudes positivas hacia los mismos. Asimismo, también se estudiaron otras variables ideológicas, como el prejuicio en contra de los inmigrantes, el patriotismo y la orientación a la dominancia social, esperando que éstas variables estuvieran relacionadas con una actitud negativa hacia los futbolistas inmigrantes nacionalizados. Se realizaron dos estudios, uno en España (N = 97) y otro en México (N = 108). Los resultados mostraron que las variables que mejor predijeron la aceptación de los futbolistas fueron el prejuicio (en sentido negativo), y la creencia de que el equipo mejoraría su rendimiento. En la discusión se plantean algunos factores relacionados con la aceptación de nuevos miembros en el endogrupo.

Abstract

In this research we examined the role of some variables that could influence the attitude towards naturalized football players who play with national teams. Our first prediction was that the belief that the national team will improve its performance with the naturalized players, will be related with a positive attitude. We also explored if prejudice against immigrants, and other ideological variables, such as Patriotism and Social Dominance Orientation could be related with a negative attitude. As part of this research, two studies were conducted, one in Spain (N = 97) and one in Mexico (N = 108). Results showed that the main variables that predict the acceptance of the naturalized players were prejudice towards immigrants (negatively related), and the belief that the players will improve the performance of the national team. Finally, we propose some possible explanations of the causes that lead to the inclusion of new members in the ingroup.
