Resumen

Se describe la aportación de John C. Turner (1947–2011) al desarrollo de la Psicología Social contemporánea. Se hace hincapié en su capacidad de innovación en investigación y teorización, que cristalizó en la formulación de dos teorías nucleares de la disciplina: la Teoría de la Identidad Social y la Teoría de la Categorización del Yo. Se concluye que su trabajo ha conseguido renovar el área de los grupos y ofrecer una alternativa estructurada al área de la cognición social.

Abstract

An account of John C. Turner's (1947–2011) deep influence on the development of Social Psychology is provided. It emphasises Turner's outstanding research and theoretical abilities, leading to the formulation of two core theories of the discipline: Social Identity Theory, and Self-Categorisation theory. It is concluded that his work has helped to renovate the entire area of group behaviour and to look at social cognition from a structured mind perspective.
