Abstract

The aim of this paper is the psychometrical analysis of those instruments which are generally used in the measurement of love and are considered to have the greatest conceptual and empirical support. We have taken into account the scales developed by Knox-Sporakowsky, Rubin, Hendrick-Hendrick, Critelli, Sternberg and Hatfield, which have been applied to a wide sample of subjects, in order to obtain their structural and psychometric profiles from each scale. We present the results and evaluate each of the instruments considered. The scales of Rubin, Critelli, Sternberg and Hatfield offer an appropiate internal consistency. We appreciate the simplicity of Rubin's scale and those developed by Critelli and Sternberg, as they are capable of providing a general measurement of love.
