Abstract

In this study we aim to carry out an evaluation of the environmental impact of a square of Granollers (Barcelona). Our interest has been motivated by some reports which have appeared in a local magazine showing a generalized negative attitude in the population towards this place. The main object of our analysis will be the accounts obtained by semi-structured interviews. The perspective of environmental psychology will be adopted for two reasons. Firstly, because of the need for communication and coordination among those who participate in the planning of urban environments and are concerned with its fulfilling the desired functions. Secondly, to make a specific diagnosis of urban environments. Finally, some directions are provided in order for politicians, designers, architects and urbanists to pay attention to what environmental psychologists and users have to say before they develop their projects.
