Abstract

In this article a reflection is made on the role bestowed on literature in current Secondary Education and High School, and on its function in the didactic methodology in language programs. The approaches to the literary phenomenon are reviewed, confronting deconstructivist theories with the universal conception in literary interpretation. The discipline's historical and textual dimension is deemed necessary for orienting students when faced with cultural phenomena. Programming examples are given, centered on medieval literature: the woman, the morisco (Christian moor in Spanish Reconquest) and the minstrel.
