Resumen
En este artículo se analiza una experiencia llevada a cabo de 1998 a 2000 con el chat como único medio de comunicación sincrónica en los seis cursos en línea de la Especialidad en Lingüística Aplicada que ofrece la Maestría en Educación con Especialidades de la Universidad Virtual del Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (MEE-UV-ITESM) en México. Como muestra, se toman tres tipos de chats diferentes por su finalidad y por las restricciones impuestas (temática establecida/no establecida), cuyos fragmentos se comentan. A la luz de ese análisis, se destacan las ventajas del uso del chat en educación universitaria.
Abstract
An experience carried out between 1998 and 2000 in which chats were the only channel of synchronic communication used in six online postgraduate courses is described. The courses in Applied Linguistics are part of the Master in Education programme offered by the Universidad Virtual del Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores (MEE-UV-ITESM), in Monterrey, México. Three different types of chats were selected depending on their purpose and the restrictions imposed (topic established/not established), some fragments are discussed. In light of this analysis, the advantages of using chats in higher education are highlighted.
