Drama, desire and schooling. Drives to learning in creative and expressive school subjects

Pages 3-22 | Published online: 27 Feb 2014

Abstract

This paper focuses particularly on the secondary school curriculum, taking a piece of improvised drama as evidence and analysing it from a Vygotskian perspective, that is, drawing connections between play in children, fantasy and imagination in adolesecence and, in adulthood, the making and enjoyment of the arts. Discussion is centered on the role of desire in learning, therefore on the need to consider desire in curricular designs.
