Abstract

Many stydies admit the importance of mental images and visualising ability in mathematics learning; however, this way of solving problems is not valued at school. In this article the global framework is presented of a research carried out in a Tenerife school, addressed to analyse a) if the students aged 13–14 made use of mental images during the solution of mathematical problems and b) if the role of teachers had influenced in this mathematical activity. A particular case is presented of a good visualiser student.
