The Political Economy of Robert Chapman

Brian Easton Brian Easton has lectured in economics at the University of Canterbury and is a former director of the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research. He has also taught political science at the University of Auckland. Brian Easton founded the Economic and Social Trust in New Zealand (see www.eastonbh.ac.nz).

Abstract

Robert Chapman is the fathe R of psephology in New Zealand. He anticipated the swingometer and provided it with a theoretical underpinning. However, this article aslo suggests that the political economy of New Zealand has changed to the extent that swingometer-type analyses no longer work.
