Abstract
The concept of sharing power may seem odd in the world of politics; however, the New Zealand Green Party has proved that cooperation may be just as durable as competition (if not more so). This article, based on interviews with Green co-leaders Jeanette Fitzsimons and the late Rod Donald, discusses how this model of leadership has operated, both its strengths and weaknesses, and examines how the Greens’ leadership succession in 2006 was managed.
