Abstract

In 1961 an issue of the UNESCO International Social Science Journal was devoted to an analysis of the Parliamentary Profession. Data from various countries on the age, occupational and educational background of members of parliament were presented and analysed.

* Editor’s Note: Though this article has been at hand for some time and its data are not upto-date, it is of particular interest in relation to Austin Mitchell’s article. The two Labour octogenarians in Table 5 are no longer in the House: one has died and the other retired. But the author’s comparisons are still broadly applicable
