Criteria of Soil Aggressiveness Towards Buried Metals. III*. Verification of Predicted Behaviour of Selected Soils

Pages 116-118 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

In order to assess directly the reliability of the prognoses, corrosion tests were made on specimens of mild steel, lead, copper, zinc and aluminium, buried in twelve soils, the probable aggressiveness of which had been predicted from a simple soil-testing procedure. Results largely confirmed the prediction, exceptions being explicable from a consideration of special circumstances or extremely localised variations in soil conditions not detectable by a simple testing scheme.
