An Analysis of Galvanic Corrosion: Coplanar Electrodes with Radial Symmetry

Abstract

The electrode potential distribution across a galvanic corrosion couple with radial symmetry has been analysed. Corrosion reactions are assumed to be under activation control with Tafel polarisation kinetics. The results of the analysis have been compared with experimental values obtained from a model zinc-copper corrosion couple. The implications of the analysis are shown to be particularly relevant to accelerated testing of localised corrosion behaviour.
