Crevice corrosion studies on stainless steel using electrochemical noise measurements

Pages 21-25 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

Potential noise and current noise measurements were carried out on an AISI 304 stainless steel specimen with an artificial crevice, immersed in 3%NaCl solution. The results showed a correlation between the two parameters and the processes occurring on the electrode. The initiation of crevice corrosion or repassivation processes produced maxima in the values of both the standard deviation of the readings and the noise low frequency amplitude.
