Abstract
In the field of automated cartography the cartographic data bank is occupying an increasingly more prominent position. Within such data banks settlements occupy an important position and this paper discusses ways in which the automated selection of settlements may be achieved according to a number of varying criteria, each of which may or may not be included in the selection program.
