Advantages of dark radiation technology – rapid enamelling and energy saving for coatings

Pages 298-300 | Published online: 22 Dec 2013

Abstract

To ensure rapid enamelling of powder coatings and cataphoretic paints SLF has developed a new technology based on a combination of long wave infrared radiation (dark radiation) and convection. Experience gained with this DARC (dark radiation convection) technology has shown that not only is it well suited for enamelling powder coatings on thick walled workpieces, but also for quick enamelling on workpieces with different wall thicknesses. With this technology the warm-up time can be reduced considerably and paints on thick-walled workpieces in particular can be hardened economically and energy-efficiently.

This paper is based on a presentation given at the IMF TransFair 2013 conference held at The Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK, on 11–13 June 2013, and is an edited version of an article published in German in JOT earlier this year.
