We carry in the following pages a wide mix of papers on surface deposition and treatment, including electrodeposition, HVOF and plasma treatments, compositional multilayer alloy coatings, anodic deposition of polypyrrole and electroless deposition.
The influence of nickel recovery efficiency on crystallinity and microhardness of electroless Ni–P coatings, and optimisation using a Taguchi technique, is described by R. Muraliraja and R. Elansezhian (Pondicherry University, India), and the role of amino acids on electrodeposition and characterisation of zinc from alkaline zincate solutions, is a contribution from R. Sekar et al. at CECRI, Karaikudi.
F. C. Walsh and colleagues at Southampton University report on a study of anodic deposition of compact, freely-standing or microporous polypyrrole films from aqueous methanesulphonic acid; we also feature a report from the same group on the influence of surfactants on electrodeposition of Ni/nanoparticulate SiC electrodeposited composite coatings.
Production of layer-by-layer Zn–Fe compositional multilayer alloy coatings, using triangular current pulses for better corrosion protection, is discussed by R. S. Bhat and A. C. Hegde (Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya Memorial Institution of Technology (NMAMIT), Karnataka, Nitte and National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Srinivasnagar).
M. M. Verdian et al. from Islamic Azad University and Isfahan University of Technology, Iran, report on the role of thickness on electrochemical behaviour of Ni2Si coatings produced by HVOF, in NaCl solution.
The achieving of enhanced material finishing using cold plasma treatments is reviewed by D. P. Dowling and C. P. Stallard (University College Dublin). This paper is based on a presentation given by Professor Dowling at the AGM of the Institute of Materials Finishing in December, 2014.
IMFair 2015
This event, focusing on surface coatings and treatments developments in aerospace and allied transport sectors, will take place on 9 and 10 June of this year and a report on the conference will appear in these pages shortly afterwards. At the end of the year we are dedicating an issue of Transactions to papers from this important conference, and many of the signed-up speakers have already agreed to contribute their presentations.
