Queen Isabella's New Suburb in Coventry in 1348

Pages 240-248 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

The grant made in 1348 by Queen Isabella of 88 roods of land in Cheylesmore Park, Coventry is re-interpreted in the light of a newly recognised deed of 1349. It is identified as relating to an intended new suburb of Coventry south of Little Park Street, which was rendered abortive by the onset of the Black Death.
